(8th April) Captain Cook Highway
Unfortunately conscious of the vast distance we still have to travel to get down to Sydney by mid May we decided to head back south to Cairns. While crossing a creek on our way back down towards the Daintree River ferry crossing we spotted a brilliantly coloured little Azur Kingfisher sitting on a rock, keeping a beady eye out for fish. The photos of beaches were taken from the main Captain Cook Highway that leads back towards Cairns. It’s a beautifully scenic road but very twisty turny so we had to keep stopping to enjoy the best views. For those of you who haven't heard the expression stinger, this is another name for jelly fish, very dangerous ones, that drift around this part of the coast on the hunt for unsuspecting tourists between November and May, This photo of the sign is one of many in the area, they take it very seriously up here, and the only place that you can enter the water is inside very elaborate stinger protection nets. If stung by one of these lovely creatures you will need to dowse the wound with vinegar immediately and then get rushed to hospital for emergency treatment, nice!
