(8th May) Forster/Tuncurry
Forster and Tuncurry are twinned towns on either side of a bridged waterway called Wallis Lake. We first came into Tuncurry to the north where we sat and ate our lunch while looking out over the water. We had read that dolphins play under the bridge but we didn’t see any this time. Over in Forster (pronounced “Foster”) we were advised to do the Bicentennial Coastal Walk to go in search of dolphins, which, although it was an amazingly scenic walk, didn’t produce the promised dolphins either. We were walking back to the campsite all disappointed when Jo finally caught sight of a pod of dolphins in the sea entrance heading up towards the bridge! So our persistence paid off. We didn’t get any photos but we did get some great shots of the pelicans waiting for fish scraps from the fish gutting table instead. Never seen so many pellies in one place! We treated ourselves to a rare night out in Forster since we were camped so close to town and found a Hogs Breath Café and had another great steak meal – makes a great change to noodles and tuna – thanks again Shaun and Jo for the recommendation!
