(20th - 27th February) Geraldton to Cervantes
Well we did spend another week in Geraldton with hardly any decent wind but really high temperatures and stifling heat. All the photos above show views of Gero apart from the day time river picture which is in Dongara south of Gero. The sunset was over the Chapman River in Gero next to our campsite. The lighthouse is at Point Moore or “Point-less” as Mike calls it because the wind hardly blew! And the other shot of Mike with his board is at St. George’s Beach. The campsite shot is at Sunset Beach Campsite. You can see our plush en-suite bathroom alongside us and Jo the washerwoman amongst all her laundry. When we hit the road again we took Priscilla (the camper) south back towards Lancelin. On the way down we took the coast road instead of the Highway and visited several little towns on the way. Not many places you can actually see the sea from the road but the highlights were: Dongara and Port Denison – small holiday resort town – pretty fig tree lined high street – beach front campsite. Leeman – small jetty and small town but nothing much to see from the viewpoint – very smelly cause of lots of weed on the beach! Greenhead – horseshoe bay with turquoise water and lush green grass.Apparently people windsurf here on a reef at Point Louise. On to Jurien Bay – one of the best sunsets we have seen in Oz. We had rain here too! Thunder rumbling around all night and plenty of rain (just to make you all feel better back home in the UK!). Another town that doesn’t front the beach – they don’t seem to make the most of their assets around here! Having said that the beaches are pure and untouched although mostly covered in weed at this time of year. Island Point was our favourite beach at Jurien Bay – islands offshore and turquoise water. We saw a pod of dolphins swimming off the jetty here too!
