(1st - 3rd May) The Gold Coast
After leaving Nanango we drove back out to the coast and visited Redcliffe just north of Brisbane. Nothing particularly special about the place except the pelican feeding at Bramble Bay. We always get excited seeing the pelis! We then headed south past Brisbane (we couldn’t find any reason to visit Brisbane city itself so bypassed it completely) and entered the Gold Coast. Now, if we thought the Sunshine Coast was busy and built up this is even worse! So many skyscrapers and such busy roads! We did manage to find a couple of quiet spots away from the main hubbub. We stopped for lunch out on the spit where Sea World is and looked back towards the mainland. We did walk out onto Surfers Paradise which is just a small part of the huge beach that sweeps down along the whole coastline. We also explored the canal waterways behind the beach where all the houses have boat moorings. The most impressive part of the area for us though was looking back along the beach from the southern end at Coolangatta. Most of our photos here were taken from Coolangatta and Tweed Heads where we camped as it is much more chilled out down this end of the coast. There are a lot of inland waterways around there too. The photo of Jo stood at the bottom of a boat ramp was taken on our campsite. It is also here that we crossed the border from Queensland into New South Wales at Twin Towns and you can see Jo stood with one foot in each state up at Point Danger.
