(4th April) Mossman Gorge
We spent an afternoon at Mossman Gorge, north of Cairns. The Mossman River runs down through pristine rainforest covered mountains towards the Coral Sea and as it does it runs through a deep ravine and over huge boulders. There is a short walk through the rainforest and you can get down to the river in several places. It is quite an ethereal place where all you can hear are the sounds of the birds, the cicadas and the water flowing, which is green and crystal clear. Some people were swimming here but we’d read in the paper that a guy had been rescued by helicopter a couple of days ago after being swept away by a flash flood, so we gave it a miss. Mum and Dad, you’ll recognise the suspension bridge as the one I was running across all those years ago – didn’t freak me out as much this time though! (Love Jo)
