(28th April) Noosa & Glass Mountains
Noosa is surrounded by waterways and had the potential to really amaze us but unfortunately a combination of the overcast weather and the sheer number of people here (making it impossible to park anywhere) rather clouded our view of it. We saw fantastic views over the area from Tinbeerwah Hill and another viewpoint but these were the main highlights for us apart from the walk around the National Park out on the headland. We both had fond memories of this walk from our visits ten years ago because we had both seen koalas in the wild here. Although the walk was amazing as before with some fantastic views we were disappointed by no koala viewings. We both spent more time looking up into the trees than out at the views so it wasn’t from lack of trying! We sat out on the end of the headland at Hell’s Gate and watched a turtle fishing in the waves. We had lunch at the marina on the Noosa River and sat watching rays leaping out of the water.
We drove into the Glass House Mountains again and found a fantastic lookout that gives a panoramic view across the landscape. These mountains were named by Captain Cook (who else?) because they reminded him of the glass furnaces in his native northern England town. They are actually volcanic lava plugs that have been left behind after the sandstone volcano around them have been eroded away. This is the photo with the pointed mountain.
