(22nd August) San Onofre Beach
We were treated to a day at the beach by Tracey and Chris. They drove us south of LA to San Onofre, about 50 miles from San Diego. Another gorgeous long beach but with the added attraction for Chris, Cole and Gracey of surfable waves! The photos show Chris and Cole in action and Gracey as a beach goddess exhausted from all her surfing and boogie boarding. Mike, Jo and Tracey spent the day chilling out and gossiping on the beach. Chris cooked up a barbie early evening - the perfect ending to a great day. Back at their house we were entertained by their dogs Sunny and Teddy and their gorgeous kitten Moony - that Jo almost kidnapped - or should that be kitty-napped!
About The Surfing
A surfing and fishing camp had been there since the 1920s, before the land was taken by the U.S. government to establish Camp Pendleton, a U.S. Marine training camp during World War II. Surfers using redwood boards have visited San Onofre since at least the 1940s, including notables Lorrin "Whitey" Harrison, Don Okey, Al Dowden, Tom Wilson, and Bob Simmons.[4]
San Onofre has several surf breaks on its 3.5 miles (5.6 km) of coast, ranging from the beginner’s gentle breaking waves to one of the premiere surf breaks in the United States, Trestles.
