Round The World Trip Journal

(25th - 26th April) Tin Can Bay
Mike had read that friendly dolphins came in to be fed at Tin Can Bay so we just had to stop off here. A very small, friendly town in the middle of nowhere but with lovely surroundings. We spent an afternoon chilling out on the foreshore watching pelicans and houseboats. Reminded us a lot of Poole Harbour with islands in he background. You can tell it was all too much for Jo as she tried to recover from the thrills of Fraser Island. The following morning we were up bright and early and headed down to Barnacles Café for 7am. A dolphin called Mystique was already in the shallows and he was later joined by his daughter Patch. Feeding was a much more chilled out affair than at Monkey Mia and much better because they feed smaller fish which means that everyone gets to feed. You are handed a small white bucket with a fish in and then take it in turns to hand feed. After the initial feed lots of people left so we hung around and were able to feed both dolphins twice! Just look at the photo of Mike stood on the shore holding his fish up – this photo makes Jo laugh cause he looks like an excited kid – more fascinated by the fish than anything else! All in all it was much better than Monkey Mia and fewer people although aparently they had 300 here at Easter. The dolphins were so gentle in taking the fish from us too and they hung around after the feed so that we interact with them better. Awesome! We also did a boat trip around the bay and saw the two dolphins playing around the boat.
